6th December 2023: Community groups and residents came together to put on an illuminating display in Newmarket-on-Fergus last week.

Located in the Fairgreen near to the village church, the festive display is courtesy of a collaborative effort between the RISE Global Foundation, a charity headed up by telecoms entrepreneur and Newmarket resident, David McCourt, in conjunction with community development organisation, Obair, Dromoland Castle and Newmarket Community Center.

Entertainment was provided by the wonderful Clodagh Lawlor followed by
Scoil Maighdine na Mhuire school choir under direction from Maria Kelly as well as the Newmarket on Fergus community hall brass band, all supported by DJ Barry O’Driscoll on sound and emceed by Siobhan O’Driscoll.

The lights were turned on by David McCourt and local sporting heroes Eoin Hayes, the Irish Junior Soccer International, Mickey Power and Sean Arthur, under 18 all Ireland hurling champions and Ellen Casey, Newmarket’s junior camogie all-star 2023 winner.

Thanks to Dromoland Castle who supplied mulled wine and minced pies as well as hot chocolate and treats from the Obair after school project. Additional thanks to our group of volunteers Fintin Shannagher, Jody halpin, Kevin Halpin, Orla Martin, Triona Martin and Amanda Liddy.
